<\/figure>\n\n\n\nMy first card uses a new layered stencil set, which have been so popular lately. This is called Greenwood Flower Stencil Set and features two head-on blooms and several configurations of leaves. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/figure><\/li><\/ul><\/figure>\n\n\n\nInstead of inking through the stencil, I decided to try watercoloring through the layers instead and it produced a totally different, organic, loose result that I really love. <\/p>\n\n\n\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/inkyplanner.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Altenew-Greenwood-Flower-Stencil-Set3.jpg?resize=900%2C900\")
<\/figure>\n\n\n\nI used some pixie spray to tack down my stencil and I tried to use minimal water to prevent too much bleeding of paint under the stencil. I was also sure to dry my panel with my heat tool between colors so that I could retain the detail of each layer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/inkyplanner.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Altenew-Greenwood-Flower-Stencil-Set4.jpg?resize=900%2C900\")
<\/figure>\n\n\n\nTwo things I absolutely love about this technique:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
- it is super forgiving… this is loose watercolor giving an impression of a floral image, but nothing needs to be lined up perfectly or inked just so – have fun with it and enjoy different results each time!<\/li>
- no masking required! When I added the leaves, I just painted around the edges of the flowers with my brush. Again, this is a loose suggestion of a floral composition and nothing needs to be perfect! That’s the beauty of it.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

<\/figure>\n\n\n\nBUFFALO PLAID BACKGROUND<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\nFor my second card, I used the new Buffalo Plaid 3D Embossing Folder to create a white-on-white textured backdrop for my focal point. <\/p>\n\n\n\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/inkyplanner.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Altenew-Buffalo-Plaid-3D-embossing-folder-Bitterroot-Layering-Stencil.jpg?resize=900%2C900\")
<\/figure>\n\n\n\nThe embossing folder creates a beautiful buffalo plaid design that is deeply pressed into the paper as shown below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n… but I chose to cut it into strips that showed off the diagonal stripes of white on white. I popped three strips of the embossed cardstock up on foam tape for even more dimension, creating the perfect background for any focal point I wanted to add. I had a few extra flowers on my desk that I had inked with the Bitterroot Flower Stencil from a recent release so I arranged them on my embossed panels with a few ink splatters and a simple sentiment (from the new Tropical Jungle Stamp Set). Voila! <\/p>\n\n\n\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/inkyplanner.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Altenew-Buffalo-Plaid-3D-embossing-folder-Bitterroot-Layering-Stencil-3.jpg?resize=900%2C900\")
