Cheerful Stenciled Background

Today’s project is a simple card using inks and stencils that packs a lot of cheerful punch!

I used the BEAUTY WITHIN SIMPLE COLORING STENCIL from Altenew to easily create these gorgeous dimensional flowers. I started with a panel of Neenah Solar White 80 lb cardstock cut a bit smaller than an A2 card front. The Altenew blending brushes are on my wish list but I don’t have them yet, so I used finger tip blending brushes from iCrafter which are great for getting into the small areas of detailed stencils. Blending brushes work much better than blending foam on these intricate stencils – the foam tends to snag on the stencil and can damage it.

I started with the largest open area of the floral stencil first and used a very light application of WARM SUNSHINE ink from Altenew. It is super easy to align the next layer over the first and I brushed on a light layer of CARAMEL TOFFEE dye ink. Then I moved the stencil to the third and smallest layer and added a heavier application of CARAMEL TOFFEE ink using the same blending brush. The petals of my first flower were complete and I loved the look.

The final step for this first flower is to stencil in the center. These flowers will be the background of my design so I wanted to keep the centers subtle. I chose to use the same CARAMEL TOFFEE ink and made it a little darker on the bottom for dimension. Voila – my first flower is done!

I used the same process for the leaves, using only two layers. I used the small cluster of two leaves and applied a light layer of OLIVE INK. The detail layer for these leaves is actually part of a larger cluster so I just masked off the part I don’t need and applied MOSS INK for the details on the leaves.

I worked my way around the rest of the card panel using the same process to add more blooms (the set comes with two bloom shapes) and leaves to create the look of patterned paper in my background.

My focal point for this bright and happy card will be my sentiment, so I chose a bold “hello” from the BLOOMING BOUQUET set by Altenew and stamped it in OBSIDIAN BLACK INK and then embossed it with clear embossing powder to give it some extra pop.

For a sub-sentiment I white heat embossed the phrase “Let’s Chat Soon” from the SENTIMENT STRIPS Stamp Set on Black Cardstock. I trimmed that into a strip and popped it up on some foam tape for the final touch. The whole panel was mounted on fun foam and adhered to an A2 card base to finish the card.

Thanks for joining me as I made this simple one layer beauty that evokes sunny cheerful vibes!
