Creative Die Cutting

Hello crafty friends!  I am happy to be back with another card today for my final AECP course in Level 1! Yeah!

The last course I took for Level 1 is called Easy Die Cutting Techniques and I learned some really fun ideas to stretch my dies and use them in creative ways.  The technique I used for this card is to create a stencil from a die.  I started by running the Layered Floral Cover Die A through my big shot with a plain piece of colored cardstock.

I chose some bright pink, warm yellow, and green inks and grabbed my finger daubers for more precise ink blending.  I made sure to tape my stencil in place with some purple tape and also mask off areas I wasn’t working on.  For the large florals I blended Picked Raspberry Oxide ink into Wild Honey Oxide.

I masked off the flowers and leaves separately in an effort to keep the colors contained. Once I had most of the areas inked through my DIY stencil, I peeled it back and was so excited with the beautiful result!

To turn this inked panel into a card, I trimmed it down and mounted it off center on pink cardstock. I added a thin border of striped washi tape as an accent and then got to work on my sentiment.

For the sentiment I die cut the word “love” using a die from my stash and then altered a stamp from Label Love to get just the word “you”.  I stacked three of the Love dies to give it some weight and dimension and then popped up the label stamp with foam tape.

Finally, I added a few Moonshine clear sequins around the card for some fun and bling and mounted the whole thing on an A2 card base.

I love the effect this DIY stencil creates.  I am always on the lookout for techniques that allow me to get different looks from my supplies!
