Dude. This card’s for you.

Raise your hand if you struggle a bit with masculine cards…  is it just me?

I love florals and elegant projects and sometimes I really have to stretch out of my comfort zone to come up with a card that I’d be be proud to give to my father or husband  – or even my 13 year old son!

My latest class at Altenew Academy – “For the Guys” – offers loads of suggestions for crafters like me who need some extra inspiration in this department.  As a homework assignment for this class, I created the following card.

I used graphic triangle stamps from the Trigonometry Stamp Set by Altenew to create a stripe across the card.  I also chose a funky modern palette of orange, navy, pool and olive tones.

For my sentiment, I incorporated some cool typography with mixed fonts and bold black and white.  I found some alpha dies from my stash and stacked four layers of black die cuts to form a dimensional “you”.

So the final card reads “Dude.  You ROCK!”… which my son will love.  I finished it off with a few thin strips of black cardstock at the top and bottom of the panel, a shiny black asterisk embellishment and some black enamel dots (all from my stash).

This was certainly a fun challenge for me but I am really happy with how it turned out.  I hope this inspires you to make a fun graphic project for the men (or boys) in your life too!

Thanks for stopping by!

  2. This is AMAZING, Tricia! LOVE everything about this! It doesnt look like that you had to step out of your comfort zone for this. It looks like this was a breeze to make. So effortless! I really like the placement and the choice of colours. The best thing is all that white space just balances the card.
