Hello and welcome back to my blog!
For today’s card project, I was inspired by the amazing Jennifer McGuire who recently posted a wonderful video showcasing easel cards (check out her video here). I wanted to give it a try and it is really as easy as she said it would be! Thank you, Jennifer!
I started with a piece of 110# Neenah Solar White Cardstock cut in half lengthwise (11″ x 4 1/4″). I scored this at 5 1/2″ creating a standard top folding A2 Card. Then I scored it again at 2 3/4″ which created a fold right across the middle of the card front. That is all it takes to make an easel card! Now I got started on my card front that will stand up on the “easel”.
I used my big shot and an American Crafts embossing folder to create a textured background panel, then I cut it out using a Stitched Rectangle Die.
I stamped some flowers and leaves using the Delicate Primrose layering stamp set from Altenew. After stamping all my layers, I fussy cut each image out.
- I used the following inks from The Stamp Market:
- fresh pink
- party pink
- cherry kisses
- leafy
- mossy
- citrine (for the flower centers)
I also prepared a sentiment from the Sending You Stamp Set by stamping with Versamark Ink onto black cardstock and heat embossing in white.
I arranged my flowers and leaves around the sentiment in the center of the embossed panel until I was happy with the composition. I rolled the round bottom end of my white gel pen barrel on the cut elements to curl the paper a bit. If you do this on a mouse pad or the Sizzix Stamper’s Secret Weapon stamping pad, it breaks down the fibers of the paper and gives them some life-like dimension.
Once I was happy with the arrangement, I started adhering my focal point elements to the embossed panel. I used foam tape for some and Nuvo Deluxe liquid glue for others, varying the height of my flowers and leaves. I also cut some of my flowers so they could tuck behind the sentiment easier.
To Adhere this to my card front, I added liquid glue below the 2 3/4″ score line on my card base and mounted my panel on the front of the card, such that the bottom was glued and the top was not.
With my front panel complete, I got to work on the “ledge” that would prop up my easel once opened. This is a super simple sentiment strip on the inside of the card. I white heat embossed a sentiment from the Sentiment Strips stamp set from Altenew. A great tip for getting sentiments lined up straight is to use the Creative Corners inside the Misti and drag it right up against the sentiment to make sure it is perpendicular to the side of the paper.
I trimmed the black cardstock to the width of my card and stacked two more pieces of cardstock behind it to create a nice sturdy ledge for my easel. I accented the ledge with a thin strip of silver glitter cardstock for a finishing touch.
I trimmed the excess of the sides of my ledge and my card was complete!
Thank you again to Jennifer McGuire for the inspiration – I had so much fun trying a card style that I had never made before!
