Hello Friend!

I’m back with another beautiful card today for my Altenew Educator Certification Program course. This lesson focused on adding shine and pizzazz to simple cards using foil, embossing powder, or other metallic details.

For this card, I wanted my sentiment to take center stage.  I chose the Mega Friend Die because its size makes it an instant focal point.  To add even more drama, I wanted dimension and shine on this element.

The first thing I did was die cut the word from Neenah Solar White 80 lb cardstock and then again from white craft foam.  I covered the cardstock die cut in Versamark embossing ink and applied gold embossing powder to the entire front of the die cut. I heat it to set it and then repeated the whole process,  turning it into a beautiful gold embellishment!

Next I got to work on my card base.  I wanted to accent my focal point word with a small floral cluster.  I stamped the leaves directly on the card base using layered leaves from the Vintage Roses stamp set.   Then I stamped a few layered roses from the same set onto cardstock and fussy cut them out.

The final detail that I added to the card was a trio of score lines in the top left and lower right corners of the card front. This just adds a tiny bit of texture to the plain background and elevates the card design. Here’s a close up look – I tried to catch the detail on the 3 score lines, which I made with my teflon bone folder and the groove on my Fiskars trimmer.

Then I was ready to assemble!  I stacked my embossed die cut and matching craft foam die cut to give it dimension.  Then I adhered the flowers to the card with foam tape and glued my sentiment on with Tombow Mono Multi Glue.  The result is a simple but striking card that I plan to send to my BFF who lives across the country!

Take a look at the gorgeous shine of that sentiment and the pretty texture of the score lines in these close ups:

I loved working on this project ~ there is nothing like a little shine to make a card extra special!  Who doesn’t love some bling?
