Perfect Peonies

Happy Tuesday friends!

I just loved playing with my Beautiful Day stamp set this morning.  I think it is one of my favorite sets and peonies are some of my favorite flowers!  Tips for using this set were presented in the free All About Layering 2 Class over at Altenew Academy.

For today’s card, I stamped the layered peonies in pretty shades of blue ink from my stash.  I skipped the outline layer… I thought they looked great just like this.  I also stamped the layered leaf clusters in Bamboo, Parrot, and Olive inks from the Tropical Forest Mini Cube Set.  I don’t have the matching dies for these, so I just took my time and fussy cut them out, leaving a thin white border all around.

I played around with my composition for the florals and decided I needed a bit of subtle interest in the background.  To achieve this, I dry embossed a white A2 cardstock panel – I chose a triangular pattern because I always find that something graphic and linear is a nice contrast to the organic flowy look of the flowers.  Here’s a close up to see the cool geometric background design.

Next I started thinking about my sentiment.  I heat embossed a simple “congratulations” sentiment from the Delicate Primrose stamp set (another favorite!).   I used gold detail embossing powder on a thin strip of the same white cardstock and heat it to set.

To tie in with the gold of the sentiment, and to add one more element of subtle interest to the card, I added some metallic gold ink splatters to my background panel:

Once that was dry, all there was left to do was assemble everything.  I trimmed my embossed panel just a 1/4 of an inch and then grouped the flowers and leaves in the lower left corner, exposing some of the gold splatters.  I used foam tape to adhere some of the images and liquid glue for the others, creating variation and dimension.  Finally I popped up my sentiment strip with some foam tape and added the entire panel to an A2 card, also using dimensional adhesive.  The finished card has dimension, texture, soft beautiful flowers, and a touch a bling… all the ingredients for a great finished product!

Hope you enjoyed a peek at today’s project!  See you soon for the next one 🙂
